Coaching

Ask any manager if s/he coaches their staff and 9 out of 10 will say that they do. When asked a few questions though, about the way that they coach, we often find that they do not really understand the concept of coaching. What they actually do is tell, guide, and instruct. This is not bad, but it is not coaching.

In coaching, we need to use appropriate questioning techniques to guide the coachee down a pathway of self-discovery. Coaching is not about providing direction and answers, but rather about creating an opportunity for the coachee to solve their own problem and plot their own course.

Effective coaching helps create an organizational culture built around proactivity and self-learning rather than dependency and subservience.

.

In those organisations where coaching is the norm and leaders have the skills, confidence and commitment to coach where and when appropriate we see:

  • Regular, organic feedback discussions.
  • Emphasis on growth and development.
  • Discussion of (and learning from) both failures and successes.
  • Appropriate task allocation including responsibility, accountability, and authority.
  • Reduced hierarchy.

For the business, this typically results in reduced staff turnover & absenteeism, strengthened customer engagement, and a more attractive bottom-line. It is not easy, but it is well worth the investment in time and effort.

Our coaches bring with them a wealth of experience built across many years in multiple industries and cultures. They are not reliant on one particular approach or model but rather select from several approaches to best suit the needs of the client.

Team Coaching

Team coaching creates a culture where intra-team feedback is the norm, where individual team members regardless of the status within the team are encouraged and in fact expected to give and receive feedback.

If we look at any successful sports team, we can see the result of ongoing and consistent team coaching.
